Read this blog to know more about CELPIP Writing Task 2, how to attempt it, sample questions and more.
CELPIP Writing Task 2: Introduction
In the CELPIP Writing Task 2, you will be provided with one statement and two options. You need to choose one option and justify it. Make sure you only select one option and explain it. The time limit for the task will be 26 minutes, and the answer needs to be 150-200 words long.
CELPIP Writing Task 2: Tips
Following are the tips you can use to score well in the CELPIP Writing Task 2:
- Time Management
It's important to utilize the limited time in the exam. For the second task, you strictly have 26 minutes. An appropriate strategy would be to follow the PP approach, which is planning and proofreading. Take 2 minutes to plan what you are going to write, and after writing the whole answer, take 2 minutes to proofread your work. - Writing Structure
You have to choose one of the options, so you should write two advantages of the selected opinion. For example, the statement is that the usage of the Internet is increasing in schools day by day. The options could be that it is a positive development or negative development. So you must write two advantages for the positive or negative development. - Vocabulary
You must ensure that you do not repeat words as it looks weird, and the examiner may think you only know that many words. Try to use synonyms for different words, for example, instead of the word although, you can use though, yes, however. Using synonyms shows that you have a good hold on vocabulary. - Word Limit
While writing the answer, you should also take care of the word limit, which is 150-200 words. Your score might be low if you write less than 130 or more than 220 words. An ideal answer is 180 words, so try to write that many words only. - Proofread
If you find time in the end, proofread your answers, as it will help you correct the grammar and spelling mistakes. Proofreading allows you to make the answer more meaningful by adding more information. - Tone of answer
Using the appropriate tone is important to present your answer well. Unlike writing task 1, where you should write in polite language, writing task 2 must be answered formally. - Use Examples
Using examples can be a good way to give extra weight to your answer. Just make sure you use specific and relevant examples, not something in general. For example, if you had to answer why to explore new things, don't just say because it's more fun than a routine life.
CELPIP Writing Task 2: Samples
Following is a sample of CELPIP Writing Task 2, and you can take an idea of how you should attempt the task:
Question: You live in an area where there are many schools. In some schools, internet usage is increasing day by day. Is it positive or negative?
The choices are:
Option A: Positive Development
Option B: Negative Development
The answer to this question could be like this:
The popularity of internet consumption in schools is increasing in many countries. Some argue that it only serves to raise students' awareness. The Internet has a significant positive impact on them. If a school's library is outdated or has a limited selection of titles, students may need help to conduct the necessary research for an essay or paper. If the school has a computer lab, students can research using the Internet and digital encyclopedias.
When schools in different parts of the state, country, or world connect, students can meet their counterparts in the classroom via video conferencing. Some websites, such as Glovico, help students learn foreign languages online by matching them with a teacher from another country.
To summarise, the Internet is now present in most spheres, if not almost everywhere. Most things are dependent on the learner. So, if he wants to study, the Internet will be his ally.
That was the answer in essay format. The same in the letter format will be as follows:
Dear Sir or Madam,
I appreciate you for including me in your survey. The Internet has a significant positive impact on them. My opinion is based on two factors.
Some websites, such as Glovico and Duolingo can help students learn foreign languages online by matching them with a teacher from another country.
To summarise, the Internet is now present in most spheres, if not almost everywhere. Most things are dependent on the learner. So, if he wants to study, the Internet will be his ally.
Thanks again.
Sincerely
John Maynard Wittgenstein
