Degree Transfer Extended program - Engineering
Our three-semester Degree Transfer Extended Engineering program is tailored to prepare you for your chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Newcastle. It provides a pathway into one of Australia’s best Engineering Schools. The University of Newcastle is a Group of Eight affiliative member for Engineering and is ranked top 100 in the world for both Civil and Structural Engineering. Automation and Control Engineering is also ranked 11th in the world.

When you study a Bachelor of Software Engineering at the University of Newcastle your degree will develop your capability to solve global challenges. You will develop knowledge in computer systems, programming languages, data structures, algorithms, databases, operating systems, human-computer interaction, web engineering, enterprise architecture, computer networking, computer security, and project management.
What is software engineering? Software engineers focus on analysing a client’s needs. You will learn to design the best software architecture solutions, as well as to coordinate the implementation, integration and testing. Through a unique coursework program you will learn to document the results of your research and how to provide long-term maintenance. Software engineering is behind much of the everyday technology we take for granted - from our ipads, computer software and mobile phones through to digital televisions, computer games and online banking.
You may develop software for digital forensics analysis to help fight crime, or work in defence and combat cyber attacks. You could design wearable health management devices or write the software that powers robotically assisted surgery. Or you might create sophisticated apps that support waste minimisation processes.

Scholarships
CIE Program Scholarships
- Up to 20% tuition fee reduction on all CIE programs; amount varies on applicant’s background, e.g. high school grades.
Excellence Scholarships* - A$10,000/year
Available to students from the following regions once progressed to their University degree:
Africa, ASEAN, South Asia, or based Onshore (any nationality).
OR
International Excellence Scholarships* - A$15,000/year
Available to students once progressed into specific:
- IT & Computer Science programs
- Management, Accounting and Finance programs
Eligibility:
To be eligible for all Excellence scholarships:
- Foundation Studies and Express Preparation Program students need to achieve an average mark of 67%;
- Degree Transfer and Degree Transfer Extended students need to achieve an average mark of 50%; and
- Pre-Master’s students will need to achieve a Credit average when progressing into their University degrees.
Rest of the World Scholarship – 10% off tuition fees/year
- Students who do not meet the above eligibility requirements but have met the minimum progression requirements will get 10% tuition fee reduction per year –worth up to A$17,575 over 4 years.
