Degree Transfer Program - Engineering
Our Degree Transfer Engineering provides a pathway into one of Australia’s best Engineering Schools. The University of Newcastle is a Group of Eight affiliative member for Engineering and is ranked top 100 in the world for both Civil and Structural Engineering. Automation and Control Engineering is also ranked 11th in the world. Each engineering bachelor is an Honours degree meaning that the total study period is 4 years including the degree transfer.

At the University of Newcastle we train engineers capable of solving the world’s greatest challenges. As a mechanical engineering student, your degree will prepare you to help address the world’s future energy needs by taking biomass, wind and tidal power solutions to the next level. You could learn to design self-driving farm machinery for ultra efficient food production, or develop the skills to tackle health issues by building revolutionary biomechanical solutions for people with disabilities.
What is mechanical engineering? Mechanical engineers design, manufacture and optimise specialist machines and processes. As part of your Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) you will study how to solve important problems. Your core courses in mechanical engineering will teach you to develop solutions using robotics, new advanced materials, the fundamental laws of energy generation and transmission, and the computer control of physical systems - from nano to mega-tonne scale. Mechanical Engineering is at the heart of many aeronautical, motorsport & manufacturing teams, with mechanical engineers involved in everything from wind turbines to air conditioners, aircraft and racecars.
Mechanical engineers are valued for their problem-solving ability and generalist knowledge across the different engineering disciplines and are often employed in discipline-agnostic roles as project managers, designers or advisors. A mechanical engineering degree establishes you for a lifelong career in the direction you wish to take it.

Scholarships
CIE Program Scholarships
- Up to 20% tuition fee reduction on all CIE programs; amount varies on applicant’s background, e.g. high school grades.
Excellence Scholarships* - A$10,000/year
Available to students from the following regions once progressed to their University degree:
Africa, ASEAN, South Asia, or based Onshore (any nationality).
OR
International Excellence Scholarships* - A$15,000/year
Available to students once progressed into specific:
- IT & Computer Science programs
- Management, Accounting and Finance programs
Eligibility:
To be eligible for all Excellence scholarships:
- Foundation Studies and Express Preparation Program students need to achieve an average mark of 67%;
- Degree Transfer and Degree Transfer Extended students need to achieve an average mark of 50%; and
- Pre-Master’s students will need to achieve a Credit average when progressing into their University degrees.
Rest of the World Scholarship – 10% off tuition fees/year
- Students who do not meet the above eligibility requirements but have met the minimum progression requirements will get 10% tuition fee reduction per year –worth up to A$17,575 over 4 years.
