You will undertake research methodology training and carry out an independent research project in your specialist field, working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with individual guidance and academic counselling. The course offers a pathway to higher level research in biomedical science. There is a wide breadth of biomedical research available that provides a high degree of flexibility for you to pursue your honours year in a field of your choice.
Studies can be undertaken within one of the schools of the faculty, including: Biomedical Sciences, Central Clinical School, Eastern Health Clinical School, and Public Health and Preventative Medicine. Studies can also be undertaken with one of the affiliated institutes, such as the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute or the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.
Specialisation: Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering
Electrical and computer systems engineering is a field that evolves rapidly, with new technologies and techniques being patented every day. It spans all scales of electrical and electronic engineering, from the fundamentals of circuits, electronic signals and signal processing, through to digital electronics and chip-based systems, to the design of large-scale power and telecommunication systems.
Electrical and computer systems engineering encompasses biomedical, computer systems, electronics, electrical power engineering, robotics and telecommunications.
You might design products such as smart phones, virtual reality systems or video games, or maybe robotic medical devices to assist in surgery and rehabilitation.
Monash will give you the hands-on training and theoretical insight you need for an exciting future as an electrical and computer systems engineer.
All our students experience industry-standard reprogrammable chips in the laboratories from first year onwards. By third year you will be building miniaturised machines with very powerful processing on board. In fourth year you may apply this knowledge to a 'product' of your own.
Electrical and computer systems engineers work locally and internationally in a wide range of sectors including the following:
- Power generation
- Industrial and power electronics
- Automation systems
- Computer programming
- Robotics
- Health care
- Water and energy
