Program Overview

The Master Qualifying Program (MQP) is a one-semester non-award program designed for students who already have a tertiary qualification but who do not qualify for direct entry into a Master’s degree at Curtin University. The emphasis is on developing the skills necessary to succeed in postgraduate-level studies.

Leading to: Master of Commerce
This internationally focused, two-year master degree is ideal if you are looking to move into a new career in business.

During your first semester, you’ll study core commerce units that will enhance your employability, including business project management, business analytics and data visualisation, and transformative technologies that impact society and its business practices. These units will help to extend your core knowledge in varied areas of business and STEM, and allow you to network with a wider range of peers.

You’ll then choose a major of your choice to suit your interests and gain knowledge of practices, principle and concepts in that business discipline. You’ll undertake practical learning experiences that give you the ability to solve complex business problems. You’ll also gain knowledge and research skills that you can apply to your particular industry.

Towards the end of your course, you’ll complete a capstone experience, which may include an internship, consultancy experience, research project or study tour. Your capstone experience will grow your business acumen, skill sets, networks and knowledge of industry settings before your graduate.

Major: Finance
This major is a challenging and flexible program that develops global managerial competencies for professionals with financial responsibility. Its curriculum is aligned to the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute’s Candidate Body of Knowledge and can help you successfully pass the CFA’s examinations.

You’ll learn through in-class learning, guided independent research and team projects. You’ll focus on corporate finance, investments, international business, banking and financial modelling.

You’ll also have access to the Trading Room, a Curtin facility where you’ll have access to industry-standard software, international news services and live securities and commodity prices at your fingertips.
