Program Overview

Students who have already completed Year 12 (or equivalent) may start with the Stage 2 Diploma, which has the same course content and structure as year one of the corresponding Curtin University undergraduate degree. Upon completion of your Diploma, you will progress directly into the second year of your Curtin University Bachelor's degree program.


Stage2 - Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries - Communication, Design and Arts
The Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries leads into the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communications, Bachelor of Creative Arts or Bachelor of Design. You will learn transferable skills in communication, creativity, critical thinking, digital knowledge, presentation, problem solving, research and teamwork that can be applied to a range of workplaces in the creative industry.


Leading to: Bachelor of Arts
The Bachelor of Arts is a flexible degree where you can tailor your studies to your creative passions and career goals. Our majors combine theoretical study and practical, industry-relevant content, so you graduate confident and ready to launch your career.


Major: Digital and Social Media
This course explores the social, cultural and political impacts of the internet and digital and social media platforms. You will learn the fundamentals of online communications: how people network, create, collaborate and share information through digital and social media platforms, for a range of different purposes and career paths.

You’ll build practical and advanced skills in creating, maintaining and managing online communications across web media, publishing and presence, and develop expertise in online collaboration and community management.

You’ll learn how to effectively mobilise digital and social media to promote products, causes and interests. You’ll understand how digital and social media are changing political systems and reshaping cultures, societies and economies, and how you can use digital and social media to make the world a better place.

You’ll graduate career-ready for diverse roles in digital and social media and strategy, content and policy.

Digital and Social Media is offered as part of the Bachelor of Arts. You can create a degree that suits your career goals by enhancing your studies with a second major.


What you'll learn

  • Understand and apply key concepts of Internet Studies and apply transdisciplinary thinking to the application and creation of ideas concerning networked technologies of information and communication
  • Think critically, creatively and reflectively so as to imagine, design, use and critique networked technologies of information and communication
  • Conduct appropriate scholarly and professional research to find, access, organise, evaluate and synthesise information through a variety of media and apply that information to the construction of knowledge
  • Communicate and facilitate communication through a variety of media, for different purposes, and for different audiences
  • Use the Internet and related networked technologies of information and communication with an understanding of the complex interaction of political, cultural, and economic forces that constitutes technology as social
  • Further develop skills and knowledge through self-directed learning
  • Understand the complex interplay of local, national and global factors that influence and are expressed through the Internet and networked technologies of information and communication
  • Recognise and value cultural difference and understand its significance in relation to network technologies and their use in society for communication and information

    Scholarships

    High Achiever Scholarship

    This scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 65% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.

     

    Terms and Conditions:

    • This scholarship is for full fee paying, non-sponsored international students.
    • This scholarship is only for international students at Curtin College. It excludes students enrolled in the Masters Qualifying Program (MQP).
    • This scholarship is available to students who are packaged with Curtin University.
    • The scholarship amount cannot be withdrawn by the student.
    • This scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 65% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.
    • You are required to pay the full tuition fee amount stated on your Letter of Offer and student invoice, the amount of the scholarship will be credited as a refund in your student account if you have deemed eligible by the Curtin College Scholarship Committee.
    • You will not be eligible for the scholarship if you are in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary/ sponsorship from Curtin College, Curtin University or any other third party. The scholarship can be revoked at the discretion of the college if you already have a scholarship or sponsorship.
    • This scholarship is not transferable or refundable.
    • The scholarship must be taken up in the calendar year for which they are offered.
    • This scholarship can be revoked if you do not accept your Letter of Offer or enrol into your Curtin College and Curtin University course by the dates specified in your Letter of Offer.
    • The scholarship will not be extended beyond its prescribed duration or amount unless notified otherwise by the College.
    • Curtin College reserves the right to vary or add to any of these terms and conditions at its discretion with adequate notice.


    To retain the scholarship:

    • If you apply for Deferral, you will not be eligible for the scholarship upon your return.
    • If you withdraw, defer or are terminated from your course, you will not be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship.
    • To retain eligibility for the Scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), you must remain enrolled in your initial course at Curtin College and Curtin University (with the exception of your major) according to your study plan and maintain a study period weight average of 65% and pass all units attempted.
    • You must remain enrolled as an international student for the duration of the Scholarship. If your citizenship changes during the Scholarship period, the Scholarship will only be applied to the units you completed as an international student.
    • You must enrol in all units each period according to your approved study plan. which constitutes a maximum of four (4) units of study or a minimum of three (3) units of study.
    • You must not breach the scholarship terms and conditions outlined in this document.
    • You must comply with all other College rules and regulations.
