Diploma of Science
The Diploma of Science will provide you with a solid understanding of the natural and physical sciences, including fundamental theoretical and practical principles of chemistry, biology, genetics; and for some pathways, environmental science. Your study is enhanced by additional interactive workshops and language development modules to build the communication skills you need for success in science industries.

You will also gain the necessary computational skills for scientific practice across observation, analysis and problem solving. The program will prepare you for further studies in a broad range of areas including biomedicine, environmental sustainability, chemistry and physical sciences, marine, wildlife and microbiology.


Leading to: Bachelor of Marine Science
As a student you will address and manage complex issues to ensure that marine industries prosper sustainably in healthy marine ecosystems. As a graduate, you will be equipped to tackle problems that affect our oceans, tourism, fisheries and food production, climate change, maritime pollution and waste management.

You will be offered a marine industry placement, through the Industry Affiliates Program and/or a capstone experience that will expose you to professional activities in fisheries, aquaculture, marine conservation, coastal management and/or
coastal engineering.

Major: Coastal Environments
This course gives students a thorough grounding in the physical and biological processes occurring on the coastline and in near shore marine habitats, especially sandy beaches and rocky headlands, the habitats that dominate the south-eastern Australian coastline. Anthropogenic threats to these habitats will also be discussed. Assessment involves a literature review, laboratory written reports, short presentation, and an end-of-trimester written examination. The course is aimed primarily at Bachelor of Marine Science and Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology major) students, but is also suitable for students from other biological or environmental science disciplines."
