A UNSW Foundation Studies Program is your supportive pathway to the First Year of any UNSW degree. 
Our programs are designed to suit your academic and English skills and prepare you for studying at university. We support you with personalised learning, small classes and social activities to help build your future at UNSW. 


What is a Foundation Studies Standard Program? 
A UNSW Foundation Studies Program is your supportive pathway to the First Year of any UNSW degree. The Standard Program goes for nine months, which is a faster pace than other Foundation programs we offer.

Our programs are designed to suit your academic and English skills and prepare you for studying at university, with specific streams that align with your degree. We support you with personalised learning, small classes and social activities to help build your future at UNSW.?


Who is this program for?
The Foundation Studies Standard Program has been designed specifically for international students who have strong results in Year 11 or 12, but have not met the entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate degree. 

As a pre-university program, you can select the stream that best aligns with your chosen degree, so your learning is more tailored. You’ll also be supported to improve your English, critical thinking and presentation skills, participating in lectures and tutorials that will prepare you for university.

Commerce Stream
Make it your business to be the best. The Commerce stream is designed for students planning on studying a degree in Business, Accounting, Economics and Arts.


Leading to: Bachelor of Commerce (International)
The Bachelor of Commerce (International) is your gateway to worldwide career opportunities. Build global connections on an international student exchange that’s supported with a financial scholarship.

This degree provides a solid foundation in business and includes an international studies component and one-year compulsory overseas exchange to prepare you for the challenges of working in global business. You will have the ability to incorporate a language study such as Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Japanese, Korean or Spanish within the program. Students will receive exclusive mentoring as well as a scholarship to ensure they are prepared for their study abroad.

Put what you learn in the classroom to practice in real business environments. All Commerce students complete for-credit work integrated learning as a part of their degree in the form of internships, business practicums and group consulting projects.

You’ll understand business concepts and have skills in critical thinking, creative problem-solving and decision-making within a global context. With a thorough fundamental understanding of your chosen industry, you’ll be able to build international networks and prosper on a global scale.


Major: Financial technology (FinTech)
In the past few years, financial technology has been a hot topic at industry conferences both in Australia and worldwide. This major will get you in on the ground floor of this rapidly evolving area. When you study FinTech, you’ll learn about these innovative technologies, as you also also learn the foundations of problem-solving for business success – setting you up with a set of skills that you can adapt in diverse roles and industries.

    Scholarships

    Pre-Masters Scholarship
    If you’re an outstanding new international student to UNSW College and demonstrate your commitment to cultural advancement, sporting achievements, or community leadership, the 2024 Pre-Masters Scholarship may be for you.

    This is a merit-based scholarship that rewards your talents and offers up to AU$5,000 towards your tuition fees.


    Eligibility

    Scholarships ranging from AU$2,500 - AU$5,000 will be made available to students from each of the following countries or regions*:

    • Mainland China
    • South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka)
    • North Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, South Korea, Taiwan)
    • Mekong (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam)
    • Indonesia
    • South-East Asia (Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore)
    • Middle East, Pakistan & Africa
    • Australia and New Zealand

    * Based on the residential address from which a student submits an application

    To be eligible to apply for the 2024 Pre-Masters Scholarship, students must:

    • Be from one of the above regions.
    • Hold an unconditional offer or an offer packaged with a UNSW College English program for the Pre-Masters Program May 2024 intake and submit their scholarship application no later than 18 March 2024. 

    Or

    • Hold an unconditional offer or an offer packaged with a UNSW College English program for the Pre-Masters Program August 2024 intake and submit their scholarship application no later than 8 July 2024.

    Students who have already accepted their offer for the Pre-Masters Program are eligible to apply, but if they are awarded the 2024 Pre-Masters Scholarship, they must rescind any other UNSW College scholarship (other than the International Student Award).


    Selection criteria
    Applicants must:

    • Meet the eligibility requirements as outlined above.
    • Nominate the country or region in which they are applying for the scholarship.
    • Provide a scholarship application statement of no more than 500 words, outlining:
      • Reasons for applying for the Pre-Masters Program.
      • Why they have chosen to study their preferred degree at UNSW.
      • Their participation in extra-curricular activities, including participation in cultural, sporting and leadership activities.

    If there are two candidates of equal standing, then they may be invited to attend an interview to determine their suitability. A panel consisting of the respective Regional Manager, Head of Student Recruitment and Head of Admissions and Student Systems (or their delegates) will determine which student will receive the scholarship in accordance with the eligibility criteria outlined above. The panel’s decision will be final.
