Program Overview

Become an expert in emerging technology many feel is the future of film and broadcast media. In addition to studying all aspects of virtual production, you'll specialize in one of three streams: art, camera or technician department. Learn how to work with 3D assets, integrate technology with design and cameras, post-production and more. You’ll also put your new skills to work on various projects.

Learn from industry experts
Sheridan's ATVF professors are industry leaders who have worked on internationally recognized and award-winning TV series and feature films. They'll support you closely in our small-class environments and are committed to helping you succeed — whether you're manipulating virtual sets, integrating physical props or operating gaming engines, tracking assets and cameras.

Work with the latest virtual production software and equipment
Apply cutting-edge technology to bring your ideas to life! In Sheridan's ATVF program, you'll use the latest Arri cameras and work in Unreal Engine, Unity and other virtual production/gaming engines used by industry professionals. Our dedicated virtual production studio will also feature an LED volume, allowing you to shoot your projects using a virtual 3D environment on an oversized screen.

Work collaboratively with students in other programs
As a student in ATVF, you’ll have the chance to collaborate with students from other Sheridan programs such as Honours Bachelor of Film and Television; Advanced Special Effects, Makeup, Prosthetics and Props; Visual Effects; Makeup for Media and Creative Arts; Honours Bachelor of Creative Writing & Publishing; and other programs in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design.

Hybrid program delivery mode: remote and in-person learning
The program is two semesters in length and is delivered in a hybrid format. The first eight weeks of Semester 1 are taught remotely, beginning with an introductory bootcamp, and the final seven weeks will be in-person. Semester 2 will consist of 16 hours per week of in-person classes and four hours per week of remote learning. In-person learning will be based out of Sheridan’s Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario, with occasional site visits to studios in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

More about ATVF
Sheridan's Advanced Television and Film graduate certificate program was initially founded in 2000, integrating the practical, technical and creative aspects of television and film studies while providing direct, industry-relevant experience. The program's curriculum was updated in 2023 to emphasize training in virtual production and other emergent television and film production techniques.

ATVF is designed for students who already hold a college diploma or university degree, as well as for working professionals who want to update or upgrade their skills. The program belongs to the Centre International de Liaison des Écoles de Cinéma et de Télévision (CILECT), an international consortium of the world's major television and film schools. Past ATVF graduates have earned Academy Award nominations, Genie Awards, festival awards and numerous other honours.
