Program Overview
Environmental Science explores the impact of human activities on our planet through the study of biology, chemistry, physics, and physical geography. You will gain comprehensive training in the sciences needed to address urgent environmental and urban challenges, and practical experience generating and communicating solutions.
The Environmental Science program offers two streams of study, and you select your stream in Year 2 of the program:
In the Environmental Dynamics stream, you will explore the interactions between land, air, water, and biological organisms to understand how the natural environment responds to stressors.
In the Biodiversity and Conservation stream, you will learn how organisms and ecological communities are impacted by environmental stressors and become familiar with applying this knowledge to protect species and biodiversity.
In your studies, you will get first-hand experience in data collection, research, and scientific analysis in the field and in the laboratory. You will learn to work collaboratively and develop effective communication, analytical, and critical thinking skills while better understanding climate, ecological, and biophysical systems. Our graduates are prepared to make transformative environmental change in careers within the private and public sector.

Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries
There are limited scholarships and bursaries available to international students who are currently enrolled at York University. You are encouraged to review the available funding for international students and apply for all that you qualify for. In order to be considered for many of York’s scholarships, bursaries and on-campus employment programs, you must electronically submit a Student Financial Profile (SFP). | Our entrance scholarships are available to domestic high school applicants admitted to a direct entry undergraduate program. This entrance scholarship is automatically applied, renewable at each year level, and can be regained when you recover the minimum required GPA. Recipients of this scholarship who elect to participate in an exchange program in years 2, 3 or 4 will also receive the York University Study Abroad Award, valued at $1,500. |
