Program Overview

University Foundation in English, Media, Drama and Writing Stage1 at Anglia Ruskin University is designed to prepare you for entry to university-level program. During Stage 1 you will complete a range of modules relevant to your chosen degree, as well as modules concentrating on the skills that are vital for University level education such as Critical Thinking.

Foundation
A Foundation pathway is available for students who:

  • Don’t meet the entry requirements to enter university level study directly (but hold GCSE level qualifications)
  • Feel that additional support at the start of university studies will help them stand a better chance of success
  • Have been away from studies for a period of time
  • Come from a different academic environment to that of the UK
  • Require additional English language training

Progressing from Foundation
Stage 1 will be the first stage in the 4 stage process. Meaning that on successful completion of stage 1 you will seamlessly progress to stage 2, which is the first year of a bachelor’s degree. There is no need to reapply, you will simply just progress between each stage until you reach the final stage and graduate with a degree from ARU College.

BA (Hons) Writing and Film
Our English and writing courses let you develop your own style of writing and explore facets of English language, literature and linguistics that fascinate you. And we give you industry insight through links with creative organisations.

Our film and media courses let you to explore the culture of communication, and develop your own style of media production – while focusing on the skills and knowledge valued by employers.

Develop your creative and professional writing skills, examine key films and film-makers and create your own short films on our full-time Writing and Film Studies degree in Cambridge. Get ongoing support to find work placements and take part in local film festivals, as you prepare for a career in areas including screenwriting, journalism and film-making.

On our BA (Hons) Writing and Film Studies, you’ll discover the fascinating ways in which writing and film intersect.

As well as developing your creative writing skills, including screenwriting and short stories, you’ll have the chance to explore professional writing techniques, including film reviews. Combining these with a study of critical writing, you’ll discover new ways to express your literary talent.

You’ll also investigate film-making practices from all over the world and learn the language of film from the perspective of a film-maker. This, along with full training in camera operation, sound recording and editing, will help you create your own explorative short films in video, animation or 16mm format.

Our teaching staff, which includes many published writers and professional film-makers, will offer you invaluable feedback on all of your practical work – as will your fellow students. This will give you the unique opportunity to consider a range of responses to your work, as well as to sharpen your own critical skills. You can also seek advice on your writing from our Royal Literary Fund fellows.

    Navitas family bursaries
    Value

    The bursary is equivalent to 10% of the tuition fee for up to 8 units of study within one program only with a Navitas member institution. The bursary does not apply to additional units or repeat units that may also be undertaken and excludes mixed English options. For more Information Click Here

    Eligibility

    • The Family Bursary applies where two or more students from the same family* study at a Navitas institution. The first family member can be studying at a Navitas institution at the same time as the other family members or may have studied at any Navitas institution previously.
    • The family bursary is granted to the second and subsequent family members who study at a Navitas institution.
    • The bursary is equivalent to 10% of the tuition fee for one program only with a Navitas member institution. The bursary does not apply to additional units or repeat units that may also be undertaken.
    • For Diploma students, the bursary is equivalent to 10% of the tuition fees for the first attempt at units in the program of study† (excluding mixed English option).
    • For Certificate students, the bursary is equivalent to 10% of the tuition fee for the first attempt at units in the program of study (excluding mixed English options).
    • Students must pay the full amount for half their course as shown on their Letter of Offer in order to confirm their place at the Navitas Institution to which they have applied. If the student remains enrolled at the institution, at the end of the week 4 of their first semester, 10% of their tuition fee paid will be credited to the student. The balance of the bursary is credited to the eligible students’s tuition account in the second and subsequent semesters. (The amount credited will be calculated on the actual number of units studied).
    • The maximum value of the family bursary is 10% of the tuition fees for the first attempt of units in the program of study regardless of the number of family members who have studied with Navitas institutions.
    • A completed application must be submitted to the Navitas institution together with supporting documents such as a birth certificate or family card.
    • The General Manager or the Director Finance Administration will approve the award of a family bursary and authorise the accountant to process the relevant adjustments.
