Program Overview

Architectural Engineering degrees first began at Leeds in the 1970s when we were the first UK university to offer such a degree course. The current Architectural Engineering courses are truly interdisciplinary, designed to produce engineers who can design buildings by integrating the principles and practice of architecture, building physics and structural engineering.

You’ll work on a series of studio-based building design projects, many of which will be undertaken in our studio spaces. Not only will you put into practice what you have learned in lectures, laboratory classes and tutorials, but you will also build scale physical models and develop graphical presentation and computer modelling skills using industry standard software.

  • Design studio work is a key part of all Architectural Engineering and Architecture degrees, where you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience. It enables you to develop skills as a researcher, asking and answering important questions about the way our world works.
  • You’ll also benefit from the small-group tutorial based approach to teaching and learning provided by a teaching team of professionally qualified architects, building services, civil and structural engineers – all based in the same School.
  • The Architectural Engineering programme is entirely common with the School’s MEng, BEng programme in Architecture – you can decide to transfer between these courses, should you wish to do so, by the end of your second year of study.
