Program Overview

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife, Ecology and Conservation Science degree incorporates zoology, ecology, environmental and conservation science.  The course has been designed to align with the criteria for future accreditation with the Royal Society of Biology, and addresses current knowledge and skills shortages within the sector, as identified by the Natural Environment Research Council.

During the course you will experience a significant amount of fieldwork at numerous sites of scientific and conservation importance in Suffolk and have opportunities for international travel to study wildlife and habitats abroad. You will also gain a firm foundation in modern biology and laboratory research techniques to equip you with sought after skills in demand for employment in the sector.

While at the University of Suffolk you will benefit from close working relationships with a highly qualified and research active international teaching team and develop a network of contacts with numerous wildlife and conservation organisations. The academic team are active researchers at the forefront of ecology and biodiversity conservation locally and worldwide. The way the course is designed means that our graduates leave with a rich network of professional and social contacts in the wildlife and ecology sector, and a skill set that is recognised and appreciated by a wide range of employers. This degree will give you the opportunity to follow many career paths from basic research in universities, research organisations, museums, to working for non-governmental organisations such as the Wildlife Trusts, the RSPB or the WWF. Graduates can also find employment as planning consultants, conservationists, teachers and science writers, and with government agencies that have statutory responsibilities to devise policy and conserve the natural environment.  Careers within agri-business and agri-tech sectors, wildlife parks and zoos, and sustainability management would also be available to students completing the course

    Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship

    The University of Suffolk Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship is a new and exciting scheme to reward exceptional international applicants who have a strong track record of academic achievement and show a commitment to having a transformative impact both during their studies and after graduation. This scheme is aimed at students intending to pursue one of our eligible professional health degrees.

    We will be awarding fifty (50) Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence in Health Scholarships of £4,000 value each in the 2025/26 academic year.

    International Merit Scholarship

    The University of Suffolk International Merit Scholarship (2025/26) is a scheme designed to reward international students who meet or exceed our published entry requirements (based on the country where you obtained your qualifications). The scheme is open to applicants of undergraduate and postgraduate-taught programmes delivered by the University of Suffolk at the Ipswich campus. 

    The awards are £1,000 - £3,000 based on your academic achievements and level of study.

    University of Suffolk Bursary

    • The University of Suffolk Bursary is open to full-time and part-time University of Suffolk students starting an undergraduate degree programme in 2025-26. Successful applicants will receive a £500 bursary in each of their three years of study, subject to successful progression. Part-time students will receive £500 pro rata per year of study.

    Ipswich Award

    • The University of Suffolk is offering an exciting £1000 award for students starting on undergraduate courses at the Ipswich Campus.
