Program Overview

Become a leader promoting environmental progress, health and safety. A master's degree in environmental and occupational health will take you there.

Why Earn a Master's in Environmental and Occupational Health?

The M.S. in EOH is a research-oriented degree in environmental sciences, focused on building the knowledge and skills you need to identify and answer important questions about how the physical environment influences human health. You'll also learn how to disseminate those findings.

You'll undergo rigorous training in the research methods required to address key questions and generate evidence on how the environment influences health, with a focus on modifiable factors that can be addressed through policy.

Why Study Environmental and Occupational Health at CSUN?

Research Skills

You'll learn the research design and analytical skills you need to critically evaluate scientific, technical and regulatory findings and documents.

Management Expertise

You'll gain the skills to manage an environmental or occupational program and the ability to initiate program planning and critical analysis of environmental or occupational health and safety programs.

A Welcoming Network

Local employers, many of whom graduated from our department, routinely seek CSUN graduates as new hires. As the largest accredited EOH program in the nation, the department has an extensive network of environmental and occupational health professionals dedicated to the protection of the environment and community, as well as worker health and safety.

What You'll Learn

The M.S. degree is designed to prepare you for higher-level professional activities, including research, analysis and management of EOH systems.

You'll learn how to become an independent researcher, while developing the competencies needed to hold a leadership position in environmental and occupational health in government, private industry or the nonprofit sector.

You'll study research design and methodology, environmental and occupational health concepts and administration of EOH programs. You'll choose from such electives as advanced toxicology, occupational ergonomics, EOH epidemiology, advanced risk analysis and EOH sustainability.

For a culminating experience, you'll choose either a thesis or a comprehensive exam.
