Why Study in the USA?
The USA is always on the top of the heads for international students to pursue higher educational programs like graduation, master and post-graduation. This is because the USA provides students with networking opportunities and high-paying job roles after completing their studies. How to Apply for a University in USA?
The process of applying to a university can be complex; hence it's important that students know the right process for applying to a university. Let’s see how students can apply for a university in the USA.
- Know About Language Requirements
Every university has different eligibility requirements for students to get admission into a particular program. The language requirement is one of them. Many universities require students to prove their English proficiency through exams like IELTS and TOEFL. The minimum required score varies according to the university.
- Required University Application Documents
Although the documents required will vary from university to university, below is a list of common documents a student must have to apply to a university in the USA: - Academic Certificates
- Resume/CV
- Letter of Recommendation(LOR)
- Statement of Purpose(SOP)
- Passport Photo
- English-language proficiency test scores
- Know About Standardized Tests
Besides English proficiency exams, many universities may require students to give standardized tests like GRE/GMAT for graduate and SAT/ACT for Undergraduate courses. For every university, the minimum test score will be different. Hence students must research the standard test their preferred university conducts.
- Send Application Forms
After making the prospective universities list, students can start applying to them. At this stage, students must remember that every university gives admission based on factors, including academic records or standardized tests like TOEFL and IELTS.
The application form is sent to students by the admission office. To submit the form, students must attach documents like academic transcripts, standard test scores and other documents the university requires.
- Take the Entrance Exam (if applicable)
Some universities conduct their own entrance exam to give admission to international students. Therefore, students must research the entrance exam their desired university takes.
- After Receiving the Acceptance Letter
After submitting all the documents and filling out the application form, one has to wait for the acceptance letter from the university. Students might have to wait a little long for the acceptance letter.
Once students receive their acceptance letter, they can apply for M-1 Visa if they are not US citizens.
Students must arrange for their accommodation which could be on-campus or off-campus. Students can visit the university’s website for on-campus accommodation to get complete details. While for off-campus accommodation university may help to find flats and private houses outside the college.
How to Pay for College?
Before applying for the program, many international students might consider their financial situation. Those who can’t afford to pay the fee alone have many ways to fund their program.
Students can get financial support from various sources like federal and state agencies, high schools, colleges and different foundations. Some of the financial options students can get are as follows:
- Grants - Grant is a type of financial aid students don’t have to repay. The federal government and non-profit organizations can provide the grants.
- Scholarships - Scholarships are financial awards the university provides to students for meeting specific criteria. Students must look for the eligibility requirements, which depend on the type of program and university they have chosen.
- Students Loans - Another financial aid option that a student can get is a student loan. After completing their program, students must repay the student loan with interest. The loan amount will depend on the type of program students have chosen, whether it’s graduation, post-graduation or master’s.
