Tips before the test

One must follow a strategy to pass any exam. An appropriate strategy to crack the CELPIP listening test would contain the following steps:

1. Sample Test

Attempting a sample test is an excellent idea to get used to the CELPIP Listening Test. The Main website of CELPIP gives the first sample test free of cost. This will help them know where they need to improve.

2. Practice Well

This not only applies to this part but other parts of the CELPIP test as well. The whole CELPIP, including the listening section, is computer-based. Therefore, practicing it before the test will help to be used to it.

3. Read More

By reading, we don’t mean reading printed material but movie subtitles. Watch a movie or a television show with subtitles so that student can understand what the character is saying. In this way, applicant will get used to hearing spoken words. In CELPIP Listening Test, they won’t get the subtitles with the recording, so watching movies will help to grab English words quickly. Later on, watch it without subtitles when it’s easy.

4. Talk to more people.

Another way to improve listening skills is to talk with as many people as possible. One can speak English with their friends and family to get used to hearing English.

5. Go Social

Listening skills can also be improved by exposing themselves to social situations like shopping, asking for directions and opinions. These are the activities which the more they are done better the listening skill will be.

6. Timing is important

Candidate must be good at time management as they get limited time in the CELPIP listening test. While giving the sample test, put on a timer and attempt all questions within the time limit.

Tips for During the Test

Following are the tips to follow while attempting the CELPIP Listening Test:

1. Attention is everything

As it’s a listening test, one can’t risk missing even a second of information. Hence they must attentively listen to the recording as the questions are based on the recording only.

2. Time Management

In the CELPIP Listening test, applicants must learn to manage their time because they only have a limited time to answer every question. If they are stuck on one question, skip it and answer further. Keep an eye on the timer and try to answer every question within the time limit.

3. Make Notes

The recordings may contain a lot of information one can’t remember at the end; therefore, they must try to note the important information like facts, dates, times, locations and figures to see later on.

4. Be calm

Test-takers can answer the question well when they are relaxed. Don’t take much stress while attempting the question. Make sure not to look nervous to the examiner. Take several deep breaths and be at ease.

5. Double-Check

Student might need more time to correct their answers, so cross-check when writing them.

6. Plan well

Candidates get some time to think about the answer. Use that time to outline and collect all the information.

7. No negative marking

The CELPIP listening test doesn’t have a negative marking means no marks will be deducted even if they write wrong answers; therefore, they must attempt all the questions.
