Program Overview

Foundation Program
Designed specifically for international students, the UWA Foundation program will help students improve their subject knowledge and English language skills. Students can progress to Year 1 of any undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia (UWA) upon successful completion to the required level.

Leading to: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Science (Dual Degree)
This combined degree option allows you to pair your engineering degree with your passion for data and technology, science, maths or physics - broadening your career options and giving you an edge in a rapidly changing workforce. In just five years, you can graduate as an industry-ready engineer with your Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) along with a Bachelor of Science with a major in computer science*, cybersecurity, data science, environmental science, mathematics and statistics, physics and more.

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
The Engineering program at UWA has been developed with industry to equip you with the skills to succeed in your future careers. The course is built upon three core principles: Relevance, Integration and Excellence. Engineering at UWA is relevant to the contemporary world of engineering, integrates knowledge, technical capability and practical skills to create exceptional graduates.

In this course, you’ll complement your course content with work integrated learning (450-hour practical), co-curricular activities (including engineering clubs such as UWA Young Engineers, UWA Motorsport and specialisation specific clubs) and professional skills development to become part of the community of UWA engineering graduates preferred by industry for your technical skills, professional integrity and ability to solve complex open-ended problems.

In four years, you’ll graduate as an industry-ready engineer specialising in your choice of Automation and Robotics, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mining or Software engineering.

Major: Mining Engineering
Our Mining Engineering major involves you being taught by internationally recognised experts who are across the very latest ideas and new technologies. Through class activities and mine site visits, you’ll get exposure to industry practises and form networks for your future career.

You’ll get the opportunity to work on practical projects, either individually or in a team. You’ll build the technical skills, mining science knowledge, industry connections and hands-on experience to excel in the global resources sector, and to lead the technological transformation and development of the industry.

You’ll gain detailed knowledge of surface mining, underground mining, rock mechanics and mine design with exposure to geology, data science, Python coding, finance, and management.

You’ll get the opportunity to take on a final year research project giving you extensive hands-on experience and the chance to develop and test new ideas. You'll acquire the skills needed to analyse and design the most suitable mining method for a project, the best people and equipment to use, and the most appropriate applications of the latest technologies.

You'll graduate as a skilled engineer with a breadth of experience in the analysis, design and optimisation of complete mining operations (systems), from extraction of the ore to delivery of the final product.

Bachelor of Science
A key focus of the Bachelor of Science is understanding, reasoning and improving the natural world through systematic observation, experimentation, modelling and calculation. A quality education in science from UWA will equip you with attributes that are highly valued and sought after by a diverse range of employers around the globe. The Bachelor of Science gives you the opportunity to harness the skills and knowledge necessary to make a real contribution to the global challenges facing humanity. Discipline areas range from cutting-edge pure and applied science to new multidisciplinary fields of science. Acquiring the communication and research skills embedded throughout each major, you will be well prepared for many diverse and exciting careers.

Major: Mathematics and Statistics
Mathematics is the language of science, technology, engineering and finance. It underpins the data analysis, forecasting, modelling, decision-making and problem-solving principles on which modern society depends. Mathematicians contribute creatively to almost every aspect of modern life and this major will equip you with the mathematical tools and techniques of at least two of the three key disciplines of pure mathematics, applied mathematics and mathematical statistics.
