Program Overview

Foundation Program
Designed specifically for international students, the UWA Foundation program will help students improve their subject knowledge and English language skills. Students can progress to Year 1 of any undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia (UWA) upon successful completion to the required level.

Leading to: Bachelor of Environmental Science / Bachelor of commerce (Dual Degree)
In a competitive employment market, you will maximise your career options by developing in-demand technical skills in the field of environmental science along with strong business and commercial skills. This will allow you to gain management principles to help implement environmental policy in a business context. You will graduate with two qualifications, having cut two years off the time it takes you to study two degrees. If you decide either degree isn’t right for you, you can exit one and complete the other.

Bachelor of Environmental Science
The Bachelor of Environmental Science teaches understanding, rational analysis, and improvement of human impacts on the natural world. These outcomes are achieved through critical review of current knowledge, systematic observation, experimentation, modelling, and rigorous data analysis. Graduates in Environmental Science have strong theoretical knowledge, combined with practical and creative skills, equipping them with wide-ranging expertise, allowing them to solve diverse and emerging environmental problems and to communicate unbiased information to the wider community. The advanced skills and knowledge developed and demonstrated by graduates are highly valued by a range of local and international employers. Graduating students will be both competitive in the employment market and well-prepared for further study in environmental science disciplines.

Extended Major: Environmental Science and Management
Environmental science assesses the impact of human activity on the global environment and develops scientific, risk-based solutions to help secure a sustainable future. As a student of the Environmental Science and Management extended major, you will be trained to apply scientific, economic and regulatory knowledge to help society resolve global conflicts such as climate change, deforestation and water pollution.

Bachelor of Science
A key focus of the Bachelor of Science is understanding, reasoning and improving the natural world through systematic observation, experimentation, modelling and calculation. A quality education in science from UWA will equip you with attributes that are highly valued and sought after by a diverse range of employers around the globe. The Bachelor of Science gives you the opportunity to harness the skills and knowledge necessary to make a real contribution to the global challenges facing humanity. Discipline areas range from cutting-edge pure and applied science to new multidisciplinary fields of science. Acquiring the communication and research skills embedded throughout each major, you will be well prepared for many diverse and exciting careers.

Major: Conservation Biology
Conservation biologists work to prevent the extinction of the world's plant and animal species. According to Conservation International, the South West of Australia is one of the world's 36 'biodiversity hot spots' making WA an ideal living laboratory for your studies. You'll focus on how to protect and restore biodiversity, particularly understanding and minimising human impacts on the natural world.
