Program Overview
The University of Newcastle College of International Education Foundation Studies Program can be completed in either two or three trimesters and is designed to prepare international students for university study, both academically and socially. It provides access to over a hundred undergraduate degrees offered by the University of Newcastle. This streamed Foundation program will also help to increase your English and academic skills, making sure you are undergraduate study ready.

Leading to: Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours)
We train environmental engineers capable of solving the world's biggest challenges. As an environmental engineer, you might help with the adaptation of infrastructure and ecosystems to climate change. Or you could rehabilitate land damaged by mining. You might work on the clean-up of an oil spill that threatens ecosystems.
What is environmental engineering? Environmental engineers combine knowledge of chemistry, geomechanics, hydrology and land surface processes. By studying courses in environmental engineering and related fields, they learn to develop sustainable engineering practices. Engineers use their knowledge to find solutions to complex environmental problems like water pollution and soil erosion. Environmental engineers have a profound impact on our health and quality of life.
Our environmental engineers learn to work with other specialists. This ensures that they can optimise resource use and minimise long-term impacts on the environment.

Scholarships
CIE Program Scholarships
- Up to 20% tuition fee reduction on all CIE programs; amount varies on applicant’s background, e.g. high school grades.
Excellence Scholarships* - A$10,000/year
Available to students from the following regions once progressed to their University degree:
Africa, ASEAN, South Asia, or based Onshore (any nationality).
OR
International Excellence Scholarships* - A$15,000/year
Available to students once progressed into specific:
- IT & Computer Science programs
- Management, Accounting and Finance programs
Eligibility:
To be eligible for all Excellence scholarships:
- Foundation Studies and Express Preparation Program students need to achieve an average mark of 67%;
- Degree Transfer and Degree Transfer Extended students need to achieve an average mark of 50%; and
- Pre-Master’s students will need to achieve a Credit average when progressing into their University degrees.
Rest of the World Scholarship – 10% off tuition fees/year
- Students who do not meet the above eligibility requirements but have met the minimum progression requirements will get 10% tuition fee reduction per year –worth up to A$17,575 over 4 years.
