Program Overview

The Master Qualifying Program (MQP) is a one-semester non-award program designed for students who already have a tertiary qualification but who do not qualify for direct entry into a Master’s degree at Curtin University. The emphasis is on developing the skills necessary to succeed in postgraduate-level studies.

Leading to: Master of Commerce
This internationally focused, two-year master degree is ideal if you are looking to move into a new career in business.

During your first semester, you’ll study core commerce units that will enhance your employability, including business project management, business analytics and data visualisation, and transformative technologies that impact society and its business practices. These units will help to extend your core knowledge in varied areas of business and STEM, and allow you to network with a wider range of peers.

You’ll then choose a major of your choice to suit your interests and gain knowledge of practices, principle and concepts in that business discipline. You’ll undertake practical learning experiences that give you the ability to solve complex business problems. You’ll also gain knowledge and research skills that you can apply to your particular industry.

Towards the end of your course, you’ll complete a capstone experience, which may include an internship, consultancy experience, research project or study tour. Your capstone experience will grow your business acumen, skill sets, networks and knowledge of industry settings before your graduate.

Major: Human Resources
This major enables working professionals without experience in human resources management to gain expertise and professional competencies in areas of the HR management continuum.

It is particularly suited to human resource managers and employment-relations professionals and consultants who are interested in optimising workplace performance and engagement through macro- and micro-based negotiation, comparative global human resource management and employment relations, and HR analytics and research.

The course comprises in-class learning, collaborative projects and guided independent research. Topics include:

  • Building high-performing teams
  • Remuneration and performance
  • Strategic HR planning
  • HR analytics
  • Employment relations
  • Health and safety management.
