Scholarships

Financial Aid for International Students

At Assiniboine, we recognize that funding your education is essential to your academic journey. With over $1 million in scholarships and bursaries available for full-time new and returning Assiniboine students, now is the perfect time to check if you qualify—you probably do!

Scholarships can be based on a variety of criteria, such as academic achievement, school or community involvement, and athletics. Bursaries are based primarily on financial need.

Scholarships

There are various types of scholarships available that are either automatically assessed or need to be applied for:

Automatic scholarships

  • Do not require a scholarship application and are instead automatically assessed based on academic program applications.
  • Numerous automatic scholarships are available, depending on the program you’re applying to and/or high school marks.
  • To be eligible for automatic scholarships, you must apply to an Assiniboine program by March 15 for consideration and assessment for the following academic year start date.

Application-based scholarships

  • Require a separate scholarship application form to be filled out and submitted.
  • These awards may also include further submissions based on the criteria of the award.

Bursaries

Application-based bursaries

  • Require a separate application form to be filled out and submitted.
  • These awards are assessed based on financial need.

Bridging Bursaries

We offer bursaries of up to $2,000 available to support international students returning for their second year of study. These bursaries are awarded to students who demonstrate the most financial need.

  1. Apply before your second year of study. The deadline to apply is in February each year.
  2. Applying is easy! Go to assiniboine.net/awards and select the ‘Awards Search Tool’ located under ‘How to Apply’. From there, choose the International Student Bursary from the Award Name drop down list.
  3. Plan for your second year of college. Recipients of the International Student Bursary will be notified in the spring, in advance of their second year of study. Any bursary amount awarded will be credited towards your tuition for your second year of study.

Entrance Awards

As a full-time certificate, diploma or advanced diploma student at Assiniboine, you may be eligible for an entrance award to apply directly against your tuition.

  1. Applying is easy! Diane Shamray International Award online at assiniboine.net/awards
  2. Apply before you begin your program. You must apply for an entrance award once you've been accepted into a program of study at our college and before you begin your classes. Part of your application for this award requires that you tell us why you've selected the program that you did at Assiniboine. Please refer to assiniboine.net/awards for deadline details.
  3. Studying in a two-year program? Recipients of the international student award who are in a two-year diploma program will receive the award against their tuition in both their first and second year of studies in the same program.

Note: The Scholarship deadline is July 15th each year and bursary deadline is October 15th each year. Applications should be submitted a month or less prior to the deadline. By waiting until a month before the deadline, individuals are submitting the most current and up to date information on their application form.
