Our graduate programs in Family Studies and Gerontology program will help you develop a deep understanding of the key issues that affect this field: family dynamics and development, or individual and population aging. You can focus your studies on Family Studies or on Gerontology. Family Studies considers individuals and families across the life-course, as well as the programs and policies that affect families. Gerontology focuses on issues related to aging and the challenges that older persons encounters.

Academic Requirement

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, students will normally have completed a four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited university in a social science area (e.g., psychology, sociology, family studies, gerontology, child and youth study, social work, education) with a minimum of a B average (GPA 3.0). Undergraduate courses in statistics, research methods and at least five courses (2.5 units) in family studies or gerontology are required by all applicants. Where there are deficiencies, students may be required to complete additional undergraduate and/or graduate coursework and obtain a minimum of B in these courses prior to acceptance.

  • Range: $2,800 - $32,000 over four years
  • Eligibility: 80% or higher average
