Join a community focused on scientific discovery with our thesis-based Doctoral program in biochemistry. It involves coursework and research under the supervision of a faculty member.


As a U of R graduate student, you will receive a variety of hands-on experiences in laboratories and research labs that cover broad areas of chemistry and biochemistry ranging from fundamentals in your fields of study, to applied experiences in environmental areas and industrial areas, as well as disciplines related to medicine.


You’ll work closely with prominent researchers and learn in world-class facilities in the following fields:

  • Analytical/physical chemistry including nuclear magnetic resonance and chromatography-mass spectrometry
  • Biophysics of biological interfaces
  • Chemogenomics
  • Enzymology/chemical biology
  • Environmental chemistry
  • Inorganic/organometallic chemistry
  • Proteomics and bioinformatics
  • Supramolecular organic photochemistry and photophysics
  • Synthetic organic chemistry
  • Theoretical/computational chemistry

Scholarships

INTERNATIONAL ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP - $3,000

  • All international students applying to an undergraduate degree program will be automatically considered for this award.
  • Students must have an admission average of at least 85%.
  • Students receive their choice of either $3,000 in tuition or housing credit.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT OF DISTINCTION SCHOLARSHIP -  $80,000 ($20,000 x 4 years)

  • 50 international students with the highest high school averages each term will be awarded free on-campus housing and a meal plan. This award is valued at $80,000 for 4 years; 4.5 years for engineering students.
  • All international students applying to an undergraduate degree program directly from high school will be automatically considered for this award.
  • This award is renewable each year as long as students continue to complete 30 credit hours per calendar year and maintain a minimum UGPA of 80%.
