Program Overview

The College of Law at Ajman University was established to be a cornerstone of legal education at both the local and regional levels, playing a significant role among the higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates in preparing a generation of legal professionals capable of making a positive impact.


In the course of the ongoing development of the academic programs offered by the College of Law, the Master's program in Private Law was initially introduced in 2008, ultimately receiving final accreditation in May 2016. Recently, the program's accreditation was renewed in December 2021.


The college aims to provide an appropriate academic environment to foster creativity in various legal disciplines. This is achieved through the adoption of distinguished academic programs designed to produce qualified individuals trained in legal and Sharia practices, with an understanding of the latest developments in legal sciences. The college also focuses on teaching students how to acquire knowledge, learn independently, and make use of modern technologies, all while aligning its programs with Ajman University's three-fold mission: educational, informational, and investment-oriented.


Program Objectives:

  1. Establish a solid foundation for scientific research within the university.
  2. Prepare legal professionals capable of outstanding performance and competition in the job market, ultimately serving and advancing society in the fields of scientific research, university teaching, and more.
  3. Enhance the capabilities of postgraduate students in following scientific research methodologies, keeping up with scientific and technological advancements, and staying informed about the latest legal systems.
  4. Activate the comparative study of Gulf, Arab, and international legislation to benefit from various legal system experiences.
  5. Contribute to nationalization efforts in various legal fields and support the efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council in this regard.
  6. Offer outstanding academic programs that are based on global developments while considering the community's constants and Ajman's unique network.
  7. Establish bridges of communication and interaction between the university and its law graduates, as well as their counterparts from recognized universities.
  8. Saving the time, effort, and expenses incurred by both the state and individuals for continuing higher education abroad.
  9. Facilitating scientific and cultural cooperation, as well as the exchange of expertise and knowledge with law faculties in various Arab and foreign universities.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

The Master's program in Law aims to equip graduates with the following skills and capabilities:

  1. Cognitive Skills:

    • In terms of capacity, graduates can interpret legal texts, judicial judgments, and jurisprudential theories with a scholarly approach and a critical perspective.
    • In terms of type, they can extract legal principles from various sources to formulate accurate solutions for legal disputes.
       
  2. Intellectual Skills (Mental or Cognitive):
    • In terms of scope, graduates can analyze, interpret, and evaluate legislative texts, judicial judgments, jurisprudential theories, and provide commentary.
    • In terms of choice, they can evaluate different legislative, judicial, and jurisprudential approaches within the UAE's legal system and comparative legal systems.
       
  3. Competence Aspects (Specialization):
    • In terms of independence and responsibility, graduates prepare research, reports, and legal memos using correct legal language and an appropriate scholarly approach.
    • In terms of self-development, they master self-learning mechanisms and utilize modern technologies for information retrieval.
    • In terms of self-development, they apply professional ethics in the execution of tasks, collaborating with others.
    • In terms of their role in the context, they work as part of a professional team, maintaining objectivity and impartiality.

    Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in law or its equivalent from a university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education with a minimum GPA of "very good" (at least 3 out of 4).
