Program Overview

Our Accounting and Finance (including foundation year) BA (Hons) degree is a four-year course with a built-in foundation year (Year 0). It’s the ideal course if you’re interested in studying accounting and finance at undergraduate level but you can't meet the entry requirements or don't have the traditional qualifications required to start a standard degree.

On successful completion of this four-year degree you'll become a part-qualified accountant, eligible for professional exemptions from accounting bodies such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Association of International Accountants (AIA) and Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA). This will help facilitate your journey to becoming a qualified accountant or finding success in a finance-related career.

Our four-year accounting and finance programme has been designed with an integrated foundation year to allow you to develop key academic skills and build your confidence at the beginning of your degree. You’ll learn core business skills and the key principles of accounting, as well as numerical and technological skills that are vital for analysing data.

The foundation year of this degree is intended to prepare you for your subsequent years of studying accounting and finance, so you’ll enter Year 1 well-equipped to study at undergraduate level.

Our teaching staff have academic and professional experience in public audit, taxation, financial reporting, management accounting and information systems. You'll also benefit from industry speakers, presenting on a diversity of topics such as contemporary accounting and finance, in addition to a range of other business-related topics.

You'll share your foundation year with students on other foundation year courses, allowing you to share insights and get a taste of a variety of other business-related disciplines.

After completing your foundation year, you'll follow the same course content and have the same module options as students pursuing our Accounting and Finance BA (Hons). What's more, You'll graduate with the same full undergraduate degree as those who studied the traditional three-year course. If, during your foundation year, you decide that you would like to specialise in a different subject  area, there is flexibility to do so.
