Program Overview

The Anthropology program at CSUSM distinguishes itself as an applied, collaborative, and interdisciplinary course of study that engages students directly with the interests and efforts of local communities while connecting them to global experiences. After a core curriculum of anthropological concepts, theory, and methods, anthropology students work collaboratively with Anthropology faculty and local communities and agencies. Through an engaged and innovative curriculum that responds to state and regional needs, the anthropology program trains students in qualitative and quantitative research methods, including ethnography, participant observation, visual ethnography, social documentation, ethnomedicine, ethnobotany, biological anthropology, and archaeology.

Biological Anthropology Concentration

Focus on human biology, forensics and primate behavior. Students conduct observation and laboratory work aimed a expanding their expertise with in human and non human primate genetics, evolution and biological diversity.

    New Scholarship Deadlines

    •   CSUSM: Confirm enrollment by 2 May 2025

    CSUSM Scholarship Details

    All students who have been admitted to CSUSM for Fall 2025 will receive a $1,000 USD scholarship award offer and must confirm their place by 2 May 2025.

    •    No additional application required.
    •    Open to undergraduate and graduate students.
    •    Available for Year 1 only; applied as a credit to the student’s account: $500 USD for Fall 2025 and $500 USD for Spring 2026.
    •    May not be combined with any other scholarships or discounts for Year 1 (students may apply for other CSUSM-based funding for Year 2 and beyond).
    •    If a student is awarded a scholarship for Fall 2025 but receives a visa denial and decides to defer to Spring 2026, CSUSM will honor the scholarship award for one deferral only.
