Program Overview

The purpose of the MSN program is to develop expertise in advanced nursing skills that demands increased accountability, proficiency, and leadership.

The MSN-Master's Entry Professional Nursing (MEPN) is a combined undergraduate master's program that allows the student with a previous baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing to concurrently obtain the BSN and MSN to become eligible for licensure as an RN.  The combined undergraduate master’s degree – MEPN concentration will allow for concurrent undergraduate and graduate curriculum study that permits the student to complete up to 12 hours of graduate coursework as an undergraduate student. Nine credit hours earned from NURS 535, NURS 621, and NURS 624 courses will count toward both the BSN (50 hours) and MSN (31 hours) degrees for a total of 72 credit hours in the combined program. BSN and MSN learning objectives are met in this combined program as stated in the BSN and MSN Program Outcomes Course Map: https://www.wku.edu/nursing/mepn.php.

The MSN-Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSNS) builds on the baccalaureate of science in nursing for those who wish to be certified as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners.
