North West College - Meadow Lake Campus Scholarships
North West College has one of the most competitive scholarship programs among the Saskatchewan Regional College system. Through the generous support of our corporate and individual benefactors, thousands of dollars are awarded annually to reduce the financial burden of those who choose to pursue their education with North West College. The Government of Saskatchewan also contributes a significant amount of funding through the Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunities Scholarship Program, which matches the funds raised by post-secondary institutions through private sector and community-based partners.
Awards are commonly selected based on academic achievement or financial need and often a combination of the two. The criteria for selection of an award can also include volunteer or involvement with in your communities and schools. Please read the application form to determine which awards you can apply for.
“Choose NWC” Entrance Scholarships
You are automatically considered for a “Choose NWC” Entrance Scholarship when you apply to a full-time institute credit or university program before August 1st. You must pay your application fee and submit your most current transcripts for your application to be considered. Scholarship award amounts range from $200 to $3000 and are based on your entrance academic average.
Students entering an institute credit program must have applied by August 1st to be eligible for Choose North West College Awards. Students entering a university program must have completed their visiting student form by August 1st to be eligible for Choose North West College Awards.
The College reserves the right to make exceptions to the August 1st deadline if a program for the current academic year is announced late.
- Choose Excellence Award (valued at minimum of $1,000) – An award for candidates who demonstrate an academic coverage academic average of 90% or higher. A corporate-sponsored Choose Excellence award will be awarded to a student with the highest academic average even if the average is below 90%.
- Choose Outstanding Award (valued at minimum $500) – An award for candidates who demonstrate an academic average between 80% and 89.99%.
- Choose NWC Award (valued at minimum $200) – An award for candidates who academic averages are below 80%. Subject to availability of funds, students with highest academic averages within this category will be targeted. Students entering with a GED or under the ‘Special Admission’ category may be considered for Choose NWC Award.
Innovation Federal Credit Union Choose Excellence Scholarships - 4 scholarships at a total value of $4,000
- Open to all NWC students enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program at any location
- Students are not required to be a Innovation Federal Credit Union member.
- Student must reside in Saskatchewan
- With the exception of student loans, students receiving financial support are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
- Eight scholarships will be awarded to 8 students based on the following criteria:
- 1 Choose Excellence Scholarships valued at $2,000
- 1 Outstanding Excellence Scholarships valued at $1,000
- 2 NWC Awards Scholarships valued at $500
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Sobeys Choose Excellence Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $3,000
- Open to Battlefords Campus students who are enrolled in a full-time university or skills training program.
- One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on merit.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Meadow Lake Co-op Choose Excellence Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $2,000
- Open to Meadow Lake Campus students enrolled full-time in a university or skills training program.
- One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on merit.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Meadow Lake Kinsmen Club Choose Excellence Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $2,000
- Open to Meadow Lake Campus students who are enrolled in a full-time university or skills training program.
- One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on merit.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
PineRidge Ford Choose Excellence Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $2,000
- Open to Meadow Lake Campus students who are enrolled in a full-time university or skills training program.
- One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on merit.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Ultra Print Choose Excellence Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $2,000
- Open to Battlefords Campus students who are enrolled in a full-time university or skills training program.
- One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on merit.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Redhead Equipment Outstanding Student Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $2,000
- Open to students who are enrolled in a full-time Heavy Equipment and Truck and Transport Technician program.
- One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student based on merit.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Rotary Club of the Battlefords Choose Excellence Scholarship - 4 scholarship valued at $1,000
- Open to all Battleford Campus Students
- Two $1000 scholarship will be awarded to students with the highest entrance marks enrolled in a post-secondary program with a diploma or certificate accreditation.
- Two $1000 scholarship will be awarded to students with the highest entrance marks enrolled in a full-time university program.
Entrance Scholarships
Students who are entering their first year of full-time studies in university or skills training (business, community services, health care, trades, etc.) at North West College in the fall are invited to apply for Entrance Scholarships. Students must meet the specific requirements for each scholarship in order to be considered.
Application Based Scholarships - 2023-24 Entrance Scholarship Application
*All applicants must have submitted a scholarship application to North West College by October 3, 2023 to be considered.
Application based entrance scholarships are presented to a full-time student (minimum 60% load) who is registered for their first time in a qualifying certificate, diploma or university program offered entirely through North West College. A student may only receive this award once. Each award description will list any additional eligibility requirements. All eligible students who have applied to programs that commence between July 1st and June 30th of the current academic year, can apply for these awards. Other terms and conditions may apply. North West College reserves the right to make changes as deemed necessary, including cancellation of particular awards.
Aaron Lowe Scholarship– 1 scholarship valued at $500
- Open to all NWC students who express their opinions through the arts.
- One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student.
- Applicants must submit a portfolio: written, audio, or visual. Submissions can include an essay, poetry, short stories, music, art, dance, or other form of art.
Battlefords Adult Education Committee Scholarship– 1 scholarship valued at $500
- Open to all NWC students who have had at least a three-year break from the K-12 system.
- One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student.
- Applicants must submit a brief essay explaining their decision to enroll in a post-secondary program and discuss their plans upon completion of their program.
- With the exception of student loans, students receiving financial support are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
Gold Eagle Lodge Scholarship - 1 scholarships valued at $1000
- Open to Battlefords Campus students who enrolled full-time in the Business or Office Administration program.
- One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one student based on merit.
Kanaweyimik Child & Family Services, Inc. Scholarship– 1 scholarship valued at $500
- Open to Battlefords Campus students who enrolled in a community services program.
- One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student.
- Applicants must maintain a high academic standing and must be enrolled in a program relating to Human Services and Community Safety.
- Applicants must submit an essay demonstrating how their career choice will benefit children of the community.
North Battleford Elks Lodge #369 Scholarship - 1 scholarship valued at $1000
- Open to all NWC students who are entering a full-time university or skills training program.
- One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one student.
- Applicants must submit an essay outlining the benefits experienced through personally participating in community and/or school activities, and discussing career plans and future goals.
NWC Adult Education Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $500
- Open to all graduates of NWC’s Adult 10 or 12 program who are pursuing further post-secondary studies or training at NWC.
- One $500 scholarship will be awarded to one student based on merit.
NWC Board of Governors Scholarship– 1 scholarship valued at $750
- Open to all NWC students.
- One $750 scholarship will be awarded to one student.
- Applicants must submit an essay outlining contributions made to non-profit organizations, school associations, service clubs, or similar community-based organizations over the past five years, and express a commitment to remain in their community and continue volunteering.
- Recipient of this scholarship will not be eligible for any other merit based scholarships (Excluding Choose NWC).
Scotiabank Scholarships - 3 scholarships valued at $1,000
- One scholarship is open to an International student enrolled in the Business program.
- One scholarship is open to an International student enrolled in the Continuing Care Assistant program.
- One scholarship is open to a student (international or domestic) enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program.
- Scholarships will be awarded to a student based on merit. Top student in each program as of the end of October.
Shirley Bidart Memorial Scholarship – 2 scholarships each valued at $1,500
- Open to all NWC students enrolled full-time in the Psychiatric Nursing Program at the Battlefords Campus.
- Two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to two students.
- Eligible students must provide a letter of rationale, not exceeding 500 words, outlining financial need and the difference this scholarship will make in their educational journey.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Family of Shirley Bidart and the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Stan Wychopen Memorial Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Scholarship – 1 scholarship valued at $2,000
- Deadline for Application: October 2, 2023 *Separate Application Required
- Open to all NWC students who have graduated from a high school in the Battlefords in the last three years and who are registered in a business related program at NWC.
- Applicants must complete a BBEX application form, available from the Battlefords Campus front desk or Battlefords Chamber of Commerce office.
- Recipient of this award will be invited to attend the 2023 BBEX Awards night on November 8, 2023.
Walker Wood Foundation Scholarship– 4 scholarship each valued at $2000
- Open to all NWC students enrolled in a Health Care program. Preference will be given to the Psychiatric Nursing and Practical Nursing Programs.
- Four $2000 scholarships will be awarded to four students.
- Eligible students must:
- Not be funded (Does not include funding sources with the expectation of reimbursement including student loans)
- Be a Canadian Citizen
- Be in good standing with the College
- Provide a letter of rationale, not exceeding 300 words, outlining why you should be considered for this award. The rationale should include financial need, career goals, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.
Terms and Conditions
By accepting a scholarship the recipient hereby irrevocably grant to North West College perpetually, exclusively, and for all media throughout the world (including print, non-theatrical, home video, internet, and any other electronic medium presently in existence or invented in the future), the right to use and incorporate (alone or together with other materials), in whole or in part, photographs or video footage taken of the recipient as a result of my participation in this scholarship process at North West College. The recipient agrees to not bring or consent to others bringing claim or action against North West College on the grounds that anything contained in the property, or in the advertising and publicity used in connection herewith, is defamatory, reflects adversely on the recipient, violates any other right whatsoever, including, without limitation, rights of privacy and publicity. The recipient hereby releases North West College, its governors, officers, successors and assigns from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of actions, suits, costs, expenses, liabilities, and damages whatsoever that the recipient may hereafter have against the College in connection with the property. As a stipulation of this release, the recipient also grant North West College permission to share his/her name, civic address, email and phone number with the scholarship donor(s) exclusively. The recipients information will not be shared with any additional third party without express written consent. The recipient also consents to the release and exclusive use of any intellectual property presented in his/her scholarship application to the donor(s) for use in perpetuity.

Application based completion scholarships are presented to students (60% course load) completing a certificate, diploma or degree entirely through North West College. Battle River Treaty 6 Health Scholarship – 1 scholarships valued at $300
- Open to all NWC students who are successfully completing a program leading toward a career in a health-related field.
- One $500 scholarship will be awarded to the student with the highest academic average.
- Priority will be given to a member of Battle River Treaty 6 Health member First Nations - Little Pine, Lucky Man, Poundmaker and Sweetgrass
- This scholarship is made possible by the Battle River Treaty 6 Heath and the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
BUH Foundation Health Care Scholarship – 1 scholarships valued at $500
- Open to Battlefords Campus students who are registered in a health related, full-time skills training program
- Students eligible to apply for this scholarship will be notified when applications are accepted.
- Applicants must submit an essay that demonstrates leadership and a commitment to remain in the community after training.
- A letter of support from the program instructor must be submitted discussing the applicant’s class and college participation.
- The recipient will not have received a BUH Foundation Scholarship within the past two years.
Gordon Tucker Memorial Scholarship – 2 scholarships each valued at $2500
- Open to any First Nations or Metis student enrolled, either full-time or part-time in a program leading to a certificate, diploma or degree at the Battlefords Campus.
- Must submit an essay outlining community involvement, academic achievements (can include grade 12 accomplishments), and activities while in college/university. The 1500 (max) essay should include general interests and activities, name of program, educational and career goals, how you plan to achieve these goals, and why you feel you should be selected to receive this award.
Jason Vany Memorial Scholarship – 1 scholarships valued at $1000
- Open to all NWC students who successfully complete a program at North West College.
- Students must be nominated by a North West College employee.
- Nominees must exemplify the characteristics of quiet leadership, integrity, adaptability, compassion, humor & dedication
Pat Bacon Memorial Scholarship – 1 scholarships each valued at $600
- Open to Meadow Lake Campus students who successfully complete the Office Administration or Business program while facing adversity and through perseverance.
Presidents Achievement Scholarship
- Open to all NWC students who successfully graduate from an institute credit program from North West College.
- Students can be full time or part time
- Scholarships will be awarded to students based on the following criteria:
- Student displays leadership with in the classroom and college
- Student possesses the qualities and characteristics of a respectable citizen
- Student must be in good standing
- This scholarship is made possible by the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship Program.
Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan - Battlefords Branch Scholarship - 2 scholarships each valued at $1000
- Open to students registered in Psychiatric Nursing Program.
- Eligible students must:
- Demonstrate qualities of compassion, empathy and inclusiveness as observed by instructors, mentors or preceptors; and
- Demonstrate involvement in the community.
- Provide a personal summary about yourself and your desire to become a Registered Psychiatric Nurse. Include examples of initiative and involvement in the community such as volunteer experience. Maximum of one page
- Provide two references: ideally an instructor, mentor, preceptor.
- Applicants must complete and submit a complete a Battlefords and District Community Foundation application form. along with the NWC application form.
- This scholarship is made possible by the Battlefords and District Community Foundation and the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program.
Scotiabank Scholarships - 2 scholarhsips each valued at $1000
- One $1,000 scholarship for top overall GPA in Business Certificate (open to int’l and domestics)
- One $1,000 scholarship for top overall GPA in Business Diploma (open to int’l and domestics)
Twylia Wuttunee Memorial Scholarship – 2 scholarships each valued at $2500
- Open to any female status First Nations or Metis student enrolled, either full-time or part-time in a program leading to a certificate, diploma or degree at the Battlefords Campus.
- Must submit an essay outlining community involvement, volunteer hours, academic achievements (can include grade 12 accomplishments), and activities while in college/university.
