You could be awarded a scholarship from the university based on academic achievement as well as personal excellence.

Eligibility requirements

  • Entrance scholarships are available to students attending the university from secondary school within 18 months of graduation.
  • You have not previously attended a post-secondary institution.
  • You may not hold more than one scholarship simultaneously.
  • Summer school courses taken immediately prior to the start of the September term and any upgrading marks will not be included in grade calculations for awards.

  • The university reserves the right to determine acceptable academic credentials, grades and prerequisite courses to be used for admissions and awards.
  • Continuation of all sources of funding from the university is dependent on maintaining good academic standing, and availability of funds. International entrance scholarships

Global Leadership Award (application-based)

If you are an international secondary-school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit and are currently studying outside of Canada, you can apply for the university's Global Leadership Award (GLA).

The GLA is one of our most prestigious entrance awards. Valued at $120,000 CAD ($30,000 a year for four years), the GLA recognizes international secondary school applicants with strong academic and leadership abilities. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the GLA.

Deadline: 13th Feb 2025

International Merit Awards

If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit, you may be eligible to receive one of the university's International Merit Awards.

International Merit Awards are valued at $20,000 CAD over four years ($5,000 CAD x four years) and will be awarded to applicants with a grade point average of 80 per cent or greater as calculated at the time of admission.  Successful applicants will be notified with an offer of scholarship from the university.

Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the International Merit Awards.

This award may not be held in conjunction with other scholarships and/or awards, such as the Global Leadership Award, Awards of Recognition, Major Scholarships or In-Course Scholarships.

Student eligibility for renewal:

  • Enrolled in a course load of at least 80 per cent or 12 credit hours (normally, four courses per term)
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher in your previous year

Note, if your residency status changes to domestic, you will no longer be eligible to receive this award.

English Language Centre (ELC) Scholarship

Effective January 1, if you are an international student that has successfully completed the ELC program of study and are entering an undergraduate program at the university on a study permit, you may be eligible for one of the university’s ELC Scholarships.

Valued at $1,000 CAD, these scholarships will be awarded upon enrolment in the first year of an undergraduate program. The ELC Scholarships are one-time-only and are not renewable. Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and students receiving funding from a sponsor or third party are not eligible for this scholarship.

Awards of recognition

These awards recognize academic accomplishments for recent Canadian secondary-school graduates. If you are an international student who studied at an on-shore secondary school in Canada, you may be eligible to receive an award. The following amounts are automatically awarded in your first year based on your best six 4U/4M courses (or equivalent).

  • $4,000 - 95 per cent or higher

  • $2,000 - 90 to 94.9 per cent
  • $1,000 - 85 to 89.9 per cent
