NorthTec - Auckland Campus Students

We are here to help you on your journey, from enrolment to graduation. Explore the services available.

With a warm welcome and p?whiri for our new ?konga and wh?nau, we aim to make all our learners feel comfortable when you begin your studies and training at NorthTec. A p?whiri or whakatau takes place at each of our campuses, at the beginning of semesters one and two. All are welcome.

Our Te Ara Poutama (Student Support Services) and Student Voice teams provide a wide variety of services to support your physical, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural wellbeing. Our services include health care, counselling, academic advisors, disability advice, tikanga M?ori advice and manaakitanga.

Navigators

Navigators (?konga/Learner Champion Advisors) are available to help from pre-enrolment through to completion of your studies at NorthTec. Navigators deliver a tikanga-based model, applying knowledge and understanding of Reo M?ori & M?ori tikanga in day-to-day practice. Navigators can liaise between ?konga and their tutors, services and systems. Navigators are also familiar with the concerns and complaints process, how to access hardship and government agencies.

Examples of where a Navigator can provide support:

  • Overcoming barriers to attending classes – finding your class, finding campus support services, travel issues, accommodation issues and ‘settling’ in issues,
  • Complete your first assignment or assessment,
  • Can facilitate discussion around withdrawing from your course
  • Understanding financial obligations
  • Being a friendly person on campus who ‘has your back’ and wants you to succeed

Learners can access support through the Learner Portal.

Academic Support - Our Academic Advisors help ?konga to develop skills to become more effective learners.
Accommodation - Moving to study and need to find accommodation?
Disability Support - Our Whai Kaha Disability Support Team are here to discuss how we can support you to meet your needs and aspirations.
Free Te Reo Classes - We run a Te Reo adult community education programme, which is free to all New Zealand students. This beginner’s course teaches the basics of the M?ori language.
Library - Our experienced and friendly library staff are keen to help you succeed in your studies. Services are available to all learners across our region.
Student Voice - The role of Student Voice is to build and support the student voice and enhance learning quality and experience for all our students.
