The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) assesses your English skills and helps you study or work in a country where English is the main language of communication. It includes Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA. There are two different IELTS modules: IELTS Academic and IELTS General. The speaking and listening test are the same in both modules, but the reading and writing tests are different.
You need to take an IELTS Academic if you plan to pursue higher education or seek professional registration in an English-speaking country.
The General Training test examines your English-language capabilities in a work or social environment. It is the exam you need to take if you want to move abroad for work or migrate to an English-speaking country.
We hope you understand what an IELTS exam is for and which IELTS exam you need to take out of the two.

How do I study for IELTS?
You can prepare for the IELTS exam with Coaching or through self-study. Learn how you can prepare for the IELTS exam by yourself:
Deciding which IELTS exam you want to appear in, i.e. IELTS General or IELTS Academic, is the first step because you can prepare well for it only when you know what you are preparing for.
The next step is to familiarize yourself with the exam. Understand the test format, the parts of the test and the types of questions. After understanding the format, try doing the IELTS practice tests. Make sure you know what IELTS is about, the skills it tests, and the IELTS scoring system.
The next step is to learn about the types of questions you will encounter. There are four parts to the IELTS exam: listening, reading, writing, and speaking and the types of questions in each of the parts are different. It would be best to familiarize yourself with the different styles of questions that come in the exam and conduct your preparation under timed conditions so you become accustomed to the pace of the test. You can use various sources to practice tests, such as books, online material or the practice material provided by your IELTS Coaching Institute.
Understand the band scores
Understanding the IELTS band score is very important to know what band score is required. Band scores range from 0 to 9, and a high band score shows your high competence in English. You receive an individual band score for each part of the test and an overall band score in IELTS exam. The overall band score is calculated by taking the mean score of the four test components (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking)

Practice and set the right goals:
If you want to crack the IELTS exam yourself, you need to make plans, practice and set goals.
The first thing you can do in this regard is to familiarize yourself with the band score and what the examiner looks for in an exam to give the required band score. If you understand the examiner's point of view, you will be able to attempt the questions in a better way.
The next thing contributing to preparing well for the IELTS exam is knowing where you stand and how much improvement you need. Acceptance is the key; only after accepting your mistakes and skill level will you be able to improve them.
In addition, you can try to make English a part of your life. Read English newspapers, journals, advertisements and books, speak to your friends and family in English, and write down your thoughts in English; Listen to English audiobooks, radio and other stuff and note down the words whose meanings you are not aware of and make them a part of your daily conversations.
The more you will think in English, the better you will be able to use the language. The only way to think in English is to get indulged in it. Try to make it a part of your life today to score well in IELTS!
