Play a vital role in improving patient health by conducting diagnostic tests and recommending treatment options. As a medical scientist, you will perform tests on blood, tissues, and other bodily fluids to help doctors diagnose a range of diseases, including glandular fever, diabetes, swine flu, and cancer. You could also contribute to the success of clinical trials, advancing healthcare innovations that will shape the future of medicine.

- Work internationally following graduation - Griffith is Australia's only internationally accredited medical science degree, allowing you to work in the UK and other Commonwealth countries.
- The only program in Australia to enable you to gain hands-on experience in all 6 disciplines of Medical Laboratory Science. This degree offers practical experience in blood transfusion and immunology, clinical biochemistry, haematology, histopathology, microbiology, and molecular diagnosis. The Medical Sciences job market is booming, with a projected growth of over 6.5% by 2028.
- Develop your foundational knowledge in medical science with core subjects including general chemistry, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology which will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of how the body functions in both healthy and diseased states.
- From your second year onwards, you will focus on specialist areas of medical laboratory science, learning to diagnose diseases, and delve deeper into blood transfusions, immunology, clinical biochemistry, haematology, histopathology, microbiology, and molecular diagnostics.
- Graduate job ready. In your fourth year, you will gain hands-on experience through full-time clinical placements, immersing yourself in various disciplines of laboratory medicine. You'll apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world medical challenges.

Scholarships
The Gold Coast Student Grants program offers a $1,000 grant to help new international students settle into their new life on the Gold Coast. This grant can be used for textbooks, accommodation, or everyday expenses, easing the financial pressure of starting their journey in Australia.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Hold a valid student visa (subclass 500).
- Enroll at an Experience Gold Coast Education Member Institution for at least 24 academic weeks (including packaged offers/multiple courses).
- Be a new student with a course commencement date between 1 May–30 November 2025.
- Submit all required documents as per the Gold Coast New Student Grants’ conditions.
Important Dates: Applications Open: 11 February – 30 June 2025 (subject to early closure if the quota is met).
*Please note that this grant is only available to the first 250 eligible international students. Domestic students, international students already enrolled at an Australian institution, and those currently residing in Australia are not eligible.
