Program Overview

This double degree program is designed for students whose interests span the Arts and Social Sciences. It will give you the skills and versatility to work across a range of academic and professional disciplines, including the opportunity to develop global perspectives and communication skills. You need to include a Social Science Major, so you can design your own academic program within the Bachelor of Social Science program structure. This qualification in Social Science is then combined with an Arts major.

Major: Islamic Studies
In this major you will engage in interdisciplinary study essential to an understanding of Islam, past and present. The area of study balances historical and modern Islamic studies and research methods. One of the keys to Islamic Studies is ‘relevance’ to contemporary Australian society, but relevance can only come from a sound comprehension of past traditions in Islamic scholarship and their socio-historical contexts.

Preparation for graduate study is also a key objective of this program, with its focus on developing critical and interdisciplinary research skills through a combination of approaches.

Important changes to Western Sydney University’s International Student Scholarship Program, effective from Monday, 7 October 2024, for the 2025 academic year and beyond.  After careful review, the eligibility criteria for the $6,000 multiyear scholarships have been updated.

Postgraduate: The list of postgraduate programs for the guaranteed $6,000 multiyear scholarships have changed. Three postgraduate programs will no longer be eligible for the guaranteed $6,000 multiyear scholarships:

    • Master of Science (3749)

Instead from the 2025 academic year onwards, $3,000 and $6,000 multiyear scholarships for these programs will be awarded based on academic merit.

Undergraduate: Additionally, the University has decided to discontinue the $6,000 multiyear scholarship for the Bachelor of Nursing (4691) from the 2025 academic year onwards. Eligible students will only be able to receive $3,000 multiyear scholarships for these programs based on academic merit.

    Transition Arrangements

Students who have received offers for 2025 are being given the opportunity to accept both their academic program and current scholarship offer by Friday, 4 October 2024. The University will honour their current scholarship offer if accepted by this date. However, if students accept after this date, the scholarship offer will no longer be valid, and a revised offer, which may not include the scholarship, will be issued.
